Living in Dracan Village at Drakelow Park

A practical starting point for everyday life in Drakelow

Dracan Village and Drakelow Park: what is the difference?

Drakelow Park is the wider regeneration area on the former Drakelow Power Station site. Dracan Village is the name used by Countryside and Vistry for one of the housing developments within Drakelow Park. In everyday conversation you may hear residents and developers use both names for the growing community.

Living Here Now

Dracan Village sits within the rapidly growing Drakelow Park community on the edge of Burton-on-Trent. Residents have quick access to Burton and Swadlincote for larger shops and services, while more facilities are planned within the wider Drakelow Park development as it grows.

The neighbourhood has been designed around new housing, walking and cycling connections, landscaped areas and nearby countryside. For residents, the useful distinction is simple: Dracan Village is your immediate housing development, while Drakelow Park describes the wider regeneration site and community around it.

School & Families
Drakelow Park Flying High Academy

The new primary school on Marley Way opened in September 2026. The 420-place primary school was built as part of the Dracan Village development and is operated by Flying High Trust.

For family days out and local activities, Drakelow is also close to Rosliston Forestry Centre, the National Forest and a growing calendar of events across Burton and South Derbyshire.

Shops & Everyday Essentials

The wider Drakelow Park planning framework includes local retail provision intended to serve the growing neighbourhood. Those facilities are still being delivered in phases, so for now many residents also use nearby Burton and Swadlincote for supermarkets, shopping and everyday services.

Drakelow Hub keeps useful local places in one directory rather than relying on a static list that quickly becomes outdated.

Getting Around

Dracan Village is on Walton Road, close to Burton-on-Trent and the wider South Derbyshire road network. Burton-on-Trent railway station is the nearest mainline station, while the Drakelow Park development includes new road, pedestrian and cycling infrastructure intended to improve connections as the area grows.

For live information rather than fixed journey times, use the Travel section for roadworks, buses, trains and other day-to-day travel information.

Walking, Cycling & Green Space

One of Drakelow’s strongest advantages is its position beside the River Trent and close to the National Forest. Rosliston Forestry Centre, local walking routes and woodland cycling are all nearby, while the wider Drakelow Park plan includes paths, landscaped areas and green infrastructure within the development itself.

Eating Out & Evenings

For a meal, pub visit or evening out, residents are within easy reach of village pubs around Walton and Coton as well as restaurants, bars, cinema, theatre and live events in Burton.

What’s Changing?

Drakelow Park is still a live development rather than a finished neighbourhood. South Derbyshire’s April 2026 housing monitoring recorded 1,082 homes completed across Drakelow Park by 31 March 2026, against a strategic allocation of up to 2,239 homes. New phases, infrastructure and local facilities will therefore continue to change the area.

Rather than duplicating planning detail here, the Hub keeps a separate development page for the latest confirmed information.

About this guide

Drakelow Hub is an independent local guide, not a developer or council website. Development details can change, so planning and school information should be checked against the relevant official source when making an important decision.

Key development and school information on this page was checked against Countryside Homes, South Derbyshire District Council, Derbyshire County Council and the Department for Education in September 2026.
